Meet the team

Mark JOhnson

Mark is the lead coach for Styal Golf Juniors and has overseen the junior section since 2000. He has has continually developed the junior playing and coaching programme at Styal.

Mark has a wide experience coaching players of all abilities, from beginner to elite, and has specific knowledge in sports psychology, golf specific physiotherapy, biomechanics, 3D motion analysis and Trackman.

Mark is a county coach for both the boys and girls and was a finalist in the prestigious England Golf Awards for ‘Coach of the Year’ in 2019

Sammy Jaafari

Sammy has been playing golf since the age of 7 and joined Styal club the age of 11. He represented the club and county at amateur level. Since turning professional in 2015 Sammy went on to become a PGA golf professional and has been developing his passion for teaching particularly with his dedication to the junior programmes.

Sammy has an excellent appreciation of the numerous different perspectives and approaches used in order to attain a higher level of golfing ability. His interest in all areas of the game; technical, tactical mental and physical has resulted in him acquiring a vast amount of knowledge about the game. Sammy understands that every golfer has their own unique style of learning and the importance of adapting his style of teaching to each individual.

Simon Tracey

Simon has been part of the Styal Golf Club team since he was a Junior member himself from the age of 7. Simon turned professional in 2017.

Simon is also our ‘techie’ and helps the club with all things computer related and social media.

Simon now leads the new ‘On course coaching’ junior coaching sessions as well as the Junior coaching programmes.

If you want to talk footy, then Simon’s your man! He’s an avid Man City fan and loves to talk footy!

JUnior Captain 2022

This year we are proud to have Doug Christopher as our Junior Captain. Doug as made giant leaps with his golf over the past three years and is now playing off a 2 handicap.

We wish him good luck in his year of captaincy, it will no doubt be a good one!

David Horsey – Styal Juniors Ambassador
4 Times European Tour Winner

Multiple European Tour Winner David Horsey not only grew up and developed his game at Styal but he is now is an ambassador to Styal Golf Juniors and supports the junior section.

Our annual flagship event is The David Horsey Styal Junior Open.

You will see David around between Tour events practicing, he’s always working on his game and happy to speak to you.

SAFEGOLF Award

The health and safety of all juniors is a priority. All staff are fully trained in child safety and protection, all have a current DBS check and Safeguarding certificate and ore on the SafeGolf national register. Please follow the link below to view our policies.
